Images featuring him are tagged as miura_kentarou_(mangaka) A male mangaka who was born on July 11, 1966 in Chiba, Japan. He is known for his incredible detailed and realistic-looking art, much of which was done entirely by hand. He was interested in manga from a young age, creating his first manga when he was only 10, Miuranger, which appeared in his school's publication. He followed his artistic passion throughout his youth and got his first manga industry job working as an assistant to Morikawa George. Morikawa, however, dismissed him as an assistant because he felt the young Miura was too good at his craft and there was nothing Morikawa could teach him. Miura attended art college at Nihon University and began planning to make a serial manga of his own. His first few attempts didn't work out, until he published the prototype of what would become his most famous creation, his long-running dark fantasy adventure manga Berserk. He spent the rest of his life working on said series with a few occasional side-projects such as designing the Vocaloid Gakupo and some short manga. As a mangaka, he was influenced by Hokuto no Ken, Violence Jack, Guin Saga, the films of Paul Verhoeven, the Hellraiser films, and the artists Hieronymous Bosch, M.C. Escher, Gustave Doré and Pieter Bruegel. However, he was also influenced by more light-hearted works, such as shojo manga and Disney films. Sadly, he passed away from aortic dissection on May 6, 2021. His passing was publicly announced on May 20, 2021. This led to Berserk going on hiatus for a year before it was announced that his assistants would finish the manga under the supervision of fellow mangaka, and close friend to Miura, Mori Kouji.
