It is an extremely difficult and very bloody zombie themed shooting game franchise. Like fellow zombie game franchise Resident Evil, all voice acting is in English and there is no Japanese voice track. It focuses on heroic secret agents who battle against biological terrors unleashed by various scientists and rescuing civilians There are four main games in the series with plenty of spinoffs. House of the Overkill could be considered a fifth main game as it stars recurring hero Agent G and is set prior to the original game. The games are generally serious in tone, but quite a few entries in the game go for a self-parodical approach like Typing of the Dead which remakes House of the Dead 2 but with a focus on typing instead of standard shooting. There is also House of the Dead Overkill for the Wii, which is heavily inspired by the film Grindhouse and has a buddy comedy-esque tone with a lot of comedic banter between the heroes. It also has the distinction of having the most cursing of any video game to date. Finally, there is the more cartoonish House of the Dead EX which is a mini game spinoff of the series.
