The artwork is done by Alex_Ahad who also did the artwork for Scott Pilgrim. It is not a Japanese made game despite the heavy anime influence on it but it has gotten quite a bit of attention from pixiv artists and Japanese fighting game developers like Ishiwatari Daisuke. It is also being published by Konami. The Skullgirls 2nd Encore release also adds a Japanese dub for the first time. It boasts a mostly female main cast, but the game is darker and more violent than most other all female fighting games like Arcana Heart with various characters having attacks and backstories that wouldn't be out of place in a horror film. The outlandish cast of characters are often a blend of cuteness and morbidity.
