Now Viewing: yoshiTag type: Character Refers to Mario's cute green dinosaur/dragon sidekick, one of the most famous animal sidekicks that the hero can ride on in video games. He debuted in Super Mario Bros. 4/ Super Mario World and has been a mainstay of the Mario franchise ever since, functioning as Mario and Luigi's horse. He fights by using his long tongue to grab enemies from a distance and pulling them into his mouth and by throwing eggs. Mario and Luigi can use him to stomp on enemies and gain special power ups depending on what color Koopa Yoshi eats. In his original appearance, he was unable to do much by himself and was primarily there to assist the Mario brothers. He was popular enough to get starring roles in various games and along with his increase in prominence, he gained more abilities and has gone on adventures without the Mario Brothers and was even revealed to have helped the Mario Brothers when they were babies in Yoshi's_Island, a game where Yoshi is the hero protecting franchise hero Mario. He also stands upright more often in his later appearances. He has a special flutter jump where he kicks his feet in the air, giving him some extra height and like the Mario Brothers can also perform a ground pound. His voice notably changed after Yoshi_Story came out. Most of the games after Yoshi Story use the babyish sounding voice Totaka_Kazumi gave him in that game, and he has continued to voice the character since then.
