Now Viewing: one_piece_fan_letterTag type: Copyright A One_Piece TV special that aired on October 20, 2024, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the anime series. It is a celebration, both in-universe and out, of the the series' principal heroes and how they have affected their fans. It was released shortly after an announcement that the Toei_Animation animated adaptation was going to go on a six month hiatus, with this special and a reanimated version of the Fishman Island arc being the only Toei-produced One Piece material to tide viewers over. It was directed by Ishitani_Megumi, who directed many of the more acclaimed episodes of the Toei Anime, and original series composers Tanaka Kouhei and Hamaguchi Shiro returned to score the episode alongside Tokuda Masahiro. It was written by Toyoda Momoko. It is an adaptation of the spinoff light novel, One Piece Novel: Mugiwara Stories, which ran from July 7 to November 2, 2017. The novel was written by Oosaki Tomohito and illustrated by series creator Oda_Eiichirou. The special follows the general story of the novels but makes quite a few changes, including combining multiple stories into one and placing them within the same location (Sabody Archipelago), and changing the male protagonist of the Nami-focused story to a young girl. While the general story is stand alone and does not affect the main series' plot, the special does assume the viewers have at least watched the series up to the start of the time skip, so there are significant spoilers for viewers who haven't caught up. It is a side along glance story that focuses on characters that would be considered nameless extras in the main One Piece series, and the central characters are even unnamed within the story. It centers around a young girl who's a big fan of Nami, and even resembles a child version of her. She admires Nami for her ability to hold her own with mythical powerhouse pirates in spite of having relatively few superpowers. This fangirl has written a letter to Nami and plans to deliver it to herself once she learns that Nami may be within her general area. However, this fangirl gets thrown into an adventure of her own once she loses her letter after bumping into a Marine. Said Marine also has an envelope of his own, which contains the key to activating a secret weapon that will wipe out the Straw Hats' ship. Nami's fangirl tries to get the letter back from the Marine with her quest causing her to cross paths with others who have been influenced by the Straw Hats in their own way.
