Now Viewing: terrifierTag type: Copyright An American slasher horror franchise created by Damien Leone who wrote, directed, and supervised the special effects for each installment. The franchise is centered around the sadistic killer clown, Art the Clown, as he menaces a different cast of characters, and had its roots as short films with the first film being The 9th Circle in 2008. Art the Clown became a recurring character in Leone's subsequent films with the franchise first getting its name in 2011 when Leone made the short film Terrifier. The franchise leapt to the big screen in 2016, which also introduced a more consistent cast of characters and continuity between each installment. The series started off as humble low budget works, but as it gained more recognition and popularity which was helped by reports of people fainting or vomiting while seeing the films and steadily more positive reviews, the films' budgets grew alongside it. The series is known for being exceptionally violent, even by slasher movie standards, with kills going beyond the dismemberment and mutilation expected of slasher deaths to also include graphic disfigurements of the victims. Art is mute like many slasher villains, but is highly expressive facially, displaying his morbid sense of humor through his kills and body language.
