It was directed by Sekiguchi Masanobu, written by Yasumoto Tooru, and illustrated by Fujimaru, who also created the original concept. It was released on September 30, 2011. Although it was created by Japanese staff, it was inspired by the steadily growing popularity of Japanese pop culture, particularly anime, manga, and video games/visual novels outside of Japan. Subsequently, this visual novel was specifically targeted towards players interested in Japan, but who may not have familiarity with the nation outside of pop culture, effectively functioning as a tourist advertisement in visual novel form. The player plays as foreign man who's interested in anime/manga but has never set foot in Japan. He becomes acquainted with some Japanese netizens who agree to let him stay with them for a week in Japan. When he arrives, he discovers that said online users are actually two sisters, Misaki Makoto (the older sister), and Misaki Akira (the younger sister). The player explores Japan under the guidance of his new tour guides and forms a strong relationship with them. A decade after the novel's debut, the Misaki sisters were turned into virtual_youtubers. Their channel, called Go!_Go!_Nippon!_~Live_with_you~, started on July 26, 2021. It functions as a sequel to the visual novel, with the sisters now older and fully bilingual, speaking both Japanese and English. Said channel is also the first time the characters were fully voiced. Their content primarily consisted of streams, both educational streams about life in Japan and non-tourism related content like video game playthroughs. The channel was formed as a way to drum up interest for a second Go! Go! Nippon visual novel, with the sisters stating that if the channel reached 10,000 subscribers, a new installment would be developed. The vtuber channel ran until November 6, 2022.
