Now Viewing: baoh_raihoushaTag type: Copyright バオー来訪者 (Baoh the Visitor) It is a short-lived superhero action/horror manga created by Araki_Hirohiko. It was Araki's first serialized action manga series and ran from May 20, 1984 to February 12, 1985. It established quite a few of Araki's trademarks that he would carry over to his most famous work Jojo no Kimyao na Bouken, such as body horror-filled fight scenes where the effects of the cast's bizarre powers are illustrated in gruesome detail. It was adapted into an OVA by Studio Pierrot that was released on November 1, 1989. It was directed by Yokoyama Hiroyuki, written by Terada Kenji, and scored by Namba Hiroyuki. The series follows Hashizawa Ikurou, a teen boy who doesn't remember who he was. What he does know is that he has been transformed into a bioweapon called Baoh. When he is endangered, his body transforms into Baoh who has the potential to be the most powerful weapon on the planet, with the ability to melt objects with a touch of his hands and a host of other abilities Ikuro doesn't yet realize he has. Ikurou is a top secret project whose body is currently being transported on a train. However, while being escorted, fellow top secret project Sumire, a young girl with the power of precognition, starts a fight that ends up freeing Ikurou who soon transforms into Baoh to help the two of them escape. Now, the two are on the run from the organization that created them. Ikurou must use his newfound powers to fight against the organization and protect Sumire and himself. Although the series isn't part of Jojo canon, the franchise has dropped multiple references to it thanks to it being Araki's most well known pre-Jojo work and for its aesthetic similarities to the series. The series itself also indirectly inspired Jojo; after the release of Baoh, Araki used the money he earned from to fund a trip to England, which became the setting for Jojo's 1st arc, Phantom Blood. In spite of its short run, the series has been acclaimed by fellow shounen action manga creators such Takei Hiroyuki (Shaman King) who cites this and Jojo as some of his favorite series in his youth, and Toriyama Akira who ranked this series as his #2 Weekly Shounen Jump manga in June 1998.
