Now Viewing: true_liesTag type: Copyright An American spy action comedy film written and directed by James_Cameron, the only film of his to be a comedy. It stars Arnold_Schwarzenegger, who previously worked with Cameron on the Terminator films, and Jamie_Lee_Curtis. It is a more action-packed remake of the 1991 French comedy La Totale. The film largely keeps the plot of the original, but adds more subplots and more action sequences, which contributed to making this film's massive budget for the time of over 100 million US dollars. The film was released July 12, 1994 and was scored by another Terminator alumni, Brad Fiedel. The film follows Harry Tasker who has a dual identity. In his main job, he is a top agent for the counterterrorist Omega Sector who has foiled many terrorist plots with the help of his fellow agents Albert "Gib" Gibson and Faisil. When he comes home to his family, he is a dreadfully average computer hardware salesman who's often away on business trips. Unfortunately, trying to maintain these two identities is putting a strain on his relationship with his wife, Helen Tasker, and daughter Dana, both of whom are completely unaware of his real job. Harry is soon faced with two problems, one for each one of his identities. For the spy side, he must contend with a Middle Eastern terrorist group called the Crimson Jihad who are seeking to get their hands on dangerous superweapons. For the civilian side, Harry must try to repair his rekindle his relationship with his wife, a task that becomes more urgent for him once he suspects that his wife may be considering an affair. . . The film was another blockbuster hit for both its star and its writer/director. There were plans to make a sequel to the film, but they ultimately fell through in part because of the 9/11 attacks, which made making a comedic movie involving terrorists more uncomfortable for the creators. Nevertheless, the film did inspire some meta jokes for the 2005 movie The Kid and I, which starred Tom Arnold who played Gibson in this film, and a short-lived TV series, developed by Matt Nix, that ran from March 1, 2023 to May 17 2023.
