Like its predecessors, its a multimedia franchise in and of itself with music videos, an anime series, and video games, and starring a cast of relative newcomers to the anime/music industry. Unlike its predecessors, the main school idol unit, Liella!, was considerably smaller, consisting of only five members. It was also the first one to feature a non-Japanese performer, Liyuu, who plays Keke Tang. However, a year after Liella's debut and prior to the release of the second season, four new members were added making Liella's roster on par with previous generations in size. This incarnation of the series debuted on April 7, 2021 with the single Hajimari wa Kimi no Sora. It was followed by an anime TV series that started on July 11, 2021. The second season ran from July 17, 2022 to October 9, 2022. This generation is notably the first Love Live generation to receive a third TV anime season, which was announced shortly after the second season's conclusion complete with a casting call for another member to join Liella! It ran from October 6, 2024 to December 22, 2024. The anime notably reunites director Kyogoku Takahiko and writer Hanada Jukki who worked on the original Love Live!! anime together. The anime series follows Shibuya Kanon, a talented aspiring singer who suffers from a bad case of stage fright. Because of her performance anxiety, she has never been able to pursue music in the way that she would like, and after failing the entrance exam for Yuigaoka Girls' music program, has resigned herself to accepting the school's academic program and pursuing non-music activities. One day, while she's singing to herself, her voice catches the attention of foreign exchange student Tang Keke who is inspired to start a school idol club at Yuigaoka with Kanon. Kanon is initially hesitant, but finds herself being inspired by Keke's passion and faith in her and agrees to help her out. However, they are opposed by student council president Hazuki Ren who feels that a school idol program does not suit Yuigaoka and will only accept the club's existence if Kanon and Keke can prove themselves. Kanon and Keke set out to make their musical dreams a reality.
