For images featuring actual clock towers, use clock_tower. The series began on September 14, 1995 with the original Clock Tower, retroactively titled Clock_Tower:_The_First_Fear which was followed by a direct sequel in 1996 called Clock Tower 2. However, the original game was not localized for North America but the sequel was. When Clock Tower 2 was brought over, its title was changed to Clock Tower. The Japanese Clock Tower 2 is the only direct sequel in the franchise, subsequent installments featured an entirely new setting and cast of characters with the only common link being gameplay and the horror atmosphere. The franchise is notably one of the oldest survival horror game franchises, predating the franchise that popularized the genre, Resident Evil. Except for Clock Tower 3, the series gameplay is more like a point and click adventure game with the player using the cursor to determine the characters' actions. The franchise was one of the earliest horror games to feature a vulnerable protagonist who was virtually incapable of combat, a design decision that would become more popular in horror games a decade after the original's release. In order to keep the protagonist from being killed by the antagonists, the player must find places for them to hide or use traps. The player characters also don't have unlimited stamina, which the player must carefully manage.
