Now Viewing: twice_(group)Tag type: Copyright (트와이스) (トゥワイス) Tag refers to the highly popular Korean pop girl group. The group had its roots in 2013 when JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin Young was planning to form a girl group. Said group was originally going to consist of 6 members and would have been called 6MIX, and was about to debut when one member decided to leave, putting the group on hold. In 2015, JYP decided to create a reality survival show called Sixteen, which would show the formation of the group that would eventually become Twice. In this competition sixteen girls from around the world would compete for a spot in the new group, which was planned to have seven members. Ultimately, 9 girls were selected to join Twice, and they released their first hit single, Like Ooh Ahh, later that year. Although the group predominantly sings in Korean, roughly half of its members are from other countries, with 3 members (Sana, Mina, and Momo) coming from Japan, and one (Tzuyu) from Taiwan. The group is enormously popular throughout East Asia and within 19 months, sold over 1.2 million copies of their body of work up to that point. Starting in 2017, they have crossed over to Japan and became highly successful there as well, becoming the 1st Korean girl group to be certified Platinum for album and single sales. They became so successful that within two years of their debut, they were declared the Nation's Girl Group. Their music is predominantly upbeat pop with occasional short rap breaks performed by Chaeyoung and Dahyun. They project a more cute image with highly colorful music videos and cute dance moves, many of which have become memetic.
