Now Viewing: hayashibara_megumiTag type: Character (林原 めぐみ) Popular and prolific seiyuu/singer/radio DJ born on March 30, 1967. She initially studied to be a nurse though she did have acting experience playing Alice in Wonderland's Alice in a school play, but as she was applying for nursing school, she saw an advert for voice acting and decided to try that as well and sent a demo tape. She passed both tests and started voice acting alongside her nurse training, making her debut as various minor extras in Maison Ikkoku. While in nursing school, she also started working as a DJ at a local ice rink. Hayashibara auditioned for Tendo Akane in the next Takahashi Rumiko adaptation, Ranma 1/2, but she ended up playing Ranma-chan instead, which became her breakthrough role. Her popularity as seiyuu also boosted her radio DJ career and she received her own show, Heartful Station. She was especially prolific during the 1990s, playing many well-known female anime/video game characters. She often sings the OP and ED of the anime she voice acts in. She often plays spirited teen girls, but she also famously played the quiet and stoic Ayanami Rei. Her work output has slowed down in 2000s but she continues to voice act. She also has a comedic manga written by her based off of her own life called Megumi Toon.
