Now Viewing: euphoniumTag type: General The euphonium is a conical-bore, tenor-voiced brass instrument. It derives its name from the Greek word euphonos, meaning "sweet-sounding." The euphonium is a valved instrument; nearly all current models are piston valved, though rotary valved models do exist. Of the different types, there are three and four-valved models. The fourth valve is designed to replace the 1+3 configuration when used by itself, but may be used in conjunction with other fingerings for different notes. Because it produces a baritone-sound, music pieces for this instrument are written in bass cleft.
