Now Viewing: audrey_hepburnTag type: Character A dark-haired and slender British actress born on May 4, 1929 in Brussels Belgium. She passed away on January 20, 1993. She was from a multinational and wealthy background. Her father, Joseph Victor Anthony Ruston, was of British and Austrian descent, and her mother, Baroness Ella van Heemstra, was a Dutch noblewoman. This influence from numerous backgrounds led to her becoming a polyglot, being able to speak English, Dutch, French, Spanish, and Italian. However, her father left the family in 1935, becoming involved with fascists and never reconnected with them. Her mother and her moved to Netherlands to avoid the oncoming World War II, but they ended up being involved anyway when the Germans occupied the Netherlands. This was a deeply difficult time in her life as she both witnessed and experienced starvation firsthand. This malnutrition affected her for the rest of her life. On one hand, it gave her the slim physique she was famous for. On the other hand, it also gave her numerous health problems. After the war ended, she took up ballet. However, she was eventually told that her height and weak constitution made her ill-suited to be a prima ballerina, so she became an actress instead, starting in musical theater. Afterwards, she began appearing in small roles in movies like One Wild Oat, Laughter in Paradise, and the Lavender Hill Mob, before she made her breakthrough as Princess Ann in Roman_Holiday. She often played the female leads in lighthearted romantic comedies and became one of the most iconic and influential actresses of her generation, both in terms of her persona and her fashion sense. She was considered to be a woman who represented a different kind of beauty in contrast to the female sex symbols of her time, a woman who had a more elegant and classy look. Many of the outfits and hairstyles she wore in her films have frequently been homaged such as her black dress and pearls combo she wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's. French fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy designed many of her costumes. In spite of how much people admired her, she has admitted that she often felt insecure about her appearance. Outside of her acting, she was one of the first actresses to be involved with UNICEF, and spent the last few years of her life heading to war-torn and troubled nations helping out children there. Her image and her movies have also influenced Japanese pop culture. Gundam Wing's Relena Peacecraft, and subsequent counterparts, were modeled after her. The female lead of the romance manga Rec, Onda Aka, is in-universe a major fan of her.
