Hakurei_Reimu_(classic) returns from some training in the mountains only to discover that the Hakurei shrine has been overrun by ghosts and various youkai in her absence. Reimu, along with her turtle Genjii, sets out to stop the ghosts. Unlike later games, Reimu uses her turtle Genjii to fly instead of doing so with her own power. The game also introduces popular recurring character Kirisame_Marisa_(classic), but she has a very different design in this game and is a minor character.
