Now Viewing: di_gi_charatTag type: Copyright A series of cute and wacky comedy anime shorts starring cute alien girl Dejiko and her fellow alien friends and focusing on the comedic hijinks they get into while working at Digital Gamers. Most of the anime series are directed by Sakurai Hiroaki. The series was created to promote the Akihabara shop Digital Gamers and became very popular spawning numerous spin-offs and sequels including a romantic drama spinoff, Winter Garden, which turned Dejiko and co. into more normal teenage girls. The title is also another name for Dejiko herself. Character designs for the series are quite varied and wildly contrasting. Dejiko, Puchiko, and Piyoko are drawn in a sort of chibi style with a large head and small body. The customers at Gamers, except for Dejiko's fans and the Takuro brothers, and the boss himself are drawn as anthropomorphic thumbs with faces. Dejiko's fans and the Takuro brothers are drawn as more regular human beings although the latter are much more handsome. Dejiko and Puchiko became breakthrough roles for seiyuus Sanada Asami and Sawashiro Miyuki (who was fourteen when she played the role and was also her voice acting debut) The original anime debuted in 1999 and Dejiko first appeared in 1998 in a From Gamers magazine.
