She is playable for one level in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and is also playable as DLC in Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. Her sister Kureha, a Dragon Lineage shrine maiden who is tasked with protecting the Eye of the Dragon, is killed during the events of the first Xbox Ninja Gaiden game. Ryu takes her in as a apprentice and Momiji inherits the role of village shrine maiden and is determined to become strong enough to protect the children of the village and for Kureha. She uses a katana in Dragon Sword but switches to a naginata in her subsequent appearances. Although she spent most of her first game in captivity, she has become far better at fighting in her subsequent appearances, good enough to work together efficiently with Ryu in battling a mob of ninjas in one level of Ninja Gaiden 3. She is a kind girl who is especially loved by the children of the village who see her as an admirable older sister figure. She is also very polite and in Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, one of her opening animations has her greet her opponent by bowing. She appears as a playable fighter in the updated rerelease of Dead or Alive 5, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate. This makes her the fourth character who debuted in Ninja Gaiden to make an appearance in Dead or Alive. This also marks the first time she will fight without using weapons. She also has a unique ability to double jump in midair. Some of her moves resemble her master Ryu's and the two of them have special tag team attacks. This game also reveals that she typically wears a fundoshi as her underwear. She is the only female fighter in the game to do this. She also appears as a supporting character in the Ninja Gaiden spinoff Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, making her the only other character from the main Ninja Gaiden series to appear in this spinoff.
