Now Viewing: sperm_cellTag type: General 精子 精子細胞 スペルマ In higher animals (including humans), sperm cells are produced by the male sexual glands called testicles and are released from the body during ejaculation. Their main purpose is to find the ovum within the female reproductive tract and initiate fertilization. In terms of design, sperm cells have similarities with tadpoles, as the main head is oval-shaped with a single and long flagellum extending outwards for mobility. On average, a healthy male is capable of producing roughly 1,500 new sperm cells every second, and releases about 80 to 300 million sperm with each ejaculation. Images of sperm cells will usually, if not necessarily, be intended as microscopic views, due to their small size.
