Now Viewing: archer_(fate)Tag type: Character Tag refers to the character from the original Fate/Stay_Night. He is a dark-skinned man with white_hair. He wears a red coat with a black shirt and pants underneath. He is one of the major characters of the original visual novel, playing pivotal roles in all three story paths but especially in Unlimited Blade Works, and is the first character to be labeled as Archer in the Fate_(series). He is Tohsaka Rin's Servant and was summoned by her by accident; she was hoping to get Saber as her Servant. Although the two get off to a rocky start, Archer accepts Rin as his Master and dutifully follows her orders. He has a more coldly pragmatic approach to solving problems, which often puts him into conflict with the more idealistic participants of the Holy Grail War. In spite of what his class designation may imply, Archer is highly versatile in what weapons he uses in combat, but often defaults to using two blades for close quarters combat. Unlike the other Heroic Spirits, Archer does not remember who he actually was. or so he claims. Archer, in fact, knows that he is actually a version of Emiya Shirou from the future. Like Shirou, he has the ability to copy weapons that he has seen, but he's much more skilled at copying and wielding weapons. As he and Shirou are one and the same, Shirou's abilities start to resemble Archer's the more experience and power he gets. However, Archer is a Shirou disillusioned by his goal of becoming a champion of justice, so much so, that he plans to murder his past self in the Unlimited Blade Works path. He is one of the most popular male characters from the visual novel and has consistently made appearances in subsequent Fate media. He is also the inspiration for the slang term, GAR, which was popular during the late 2000s. A fan praised Archer's courage and manliness, saying that he was gay for Archer, but accidentally typed gay as 'gar,' which led to the neologism being used to refer to similarly tough characters who are seen as embodying manly virtues.
