She debuted in Dead or Alive 3 though she does appear in the updated version Dead or Alive Ultimate which remade Dead or Alive 2 and included a port of the Sega Saturn version of the original Dead or Alive. Since her debut, she has become one of the more popular Dead or Alive females and is often prominently displayed on DOA official artwork, sometimes even above female lead Kasumi. Although she does not have an imposing appearance, she is quite strong physically; her punches can launch an opponent across the arena. She replaces Ein as the karate fighter of the series. She is a cheerful and friendly teen girl who took care of Hayate after she discovered him abandoned in a forest by DOATEC. Since Hayate was suffering amnesia, he went by the name of Ein and that was Hitomi knew him as. She trained in karate alongside him and developed romantic feelings for him, but soon realizes that potential romance wouldn't work out because after Hayate recovers his memories, he still feels loyalty to his old clan and also because he only sees her as a friend. While Dead or Alive 5 changed the designs (particularly the characters' faces) of all the characters, Hitomi's the only character whose appearance was altered twice since her initial design for Dead or Alive 5 was met with fan backlash.
