Basically, someone is taking advantage of the fact that the legal minimum for remaining the same person is 60% of body by mass. The robot head is grafted onto their pregnant body, allowing it to be protected from their work and legally take over the responsibilities of being a legal entity.
They, however, have taken 40% of their old body and are now free to do whatever they want with science because laws only apply to legal entities. They may switch back, they may not.
