The fact Dragon Ball's tankōbon spine illustrations stopped here makes it obvious the series was meant to end with the Cell Saga. Honestly, I don't think most people would've minded if it actually did since, to this day, the end of the Cell Saga feels like the most natural conclusion Dragon Ball could've reached without jumping the shark. Unfortunately, it jumped the shark the moment the Buu Saga began.
