Like most everyone else has said, fluidity is key here. The movements seem stiff because they have defined points where movement stops and reverses. The closest physical comparison I can make is that the characters move like a newton's cradle, back and forth, back and forth, when their movements should be more like a person swinging one of those balls by hand in a circle/oval. Hope that this helps : )
