This episodes reinforces the impression that the anime's writers and animators have a special soft spot for Lana. There's even a short scene with Olivia, where she asks if Lana and Ash are on a "fishing date", and Lana almost explodes in embarassment.
Also, here she pulls the same "I use this to catch a Mega Gyarados!" joke that turned Ash into ash. Yet, during the episode she was capable of holding a School Form Wishiwashi with her strenght alone.

On top of that, Pikchu zapped her early in the series, which for the past two generations denoted the which girl would be paired with Ash (Every generation before that the girl's bike took the brunt of the damage). It's official people, so let the Ash x Lana shipping begin!

Even if you are no shipper, since Lillie is already the main girl in the game, the most popular SM character, and is most probably going to be central in the anime too in the future (especially after Lusamine and Aether Foundation will be introduced), I see no harm in rather having another of the girls have a crush on Ash.
