I've looked at the code and it does indeed take multiple images and play them back to form an animation. Good news is that the quality is higher than .gif. Bad news is that you can't just right-click and save.

Record with screen-recording software, open up in Photoshop, and then delete the unnecessary frames.

You can also click on the pixiv image to stop the animation. Which means you can increment the frames and save each one individually, if you're careful.
