It does gain a nasty second weakness, true, a whopping 4x damage from Water, even with it's drought ability in effect that is going to sting badly. Not to mention it get's a additional weakness to Ground moves.

The only good thing to come out of this is that it now get's STAB for Fire moves.

^You are forgetting that while sunny day is active, he takes no x4 dmg from water, but only x2.

Also, as you said, it gains STAB for fire moves, which, in my opinion, compesates the loss in defense.

Considering their primal forms are likely the forms they originally used to fight each other, I find it extremely hard to believe Groudon even had a chance.
Unless he gets something like water absorb.

The only problem is Kyogre ALREADY had an obvious advantage over Groudon, which is made even worse with its new typing. It isn't much of a fight when a single hydro pump (even with drought) will OHKO him now.
