Ah Culdcept.

The Culdcept manga specifically.

I loved the manga, but it always saddened me that it was axed/dropped (I never found out why and it didn't even end with a stereotypical "fast forward, the world is saved, the end!" It literally ended at the beginning of a new story arc.)
