I never played 7, wasnt and am still not a fan of RPGs on a whole and yet i would still like to see a remake done. So that kind of negates your fantard arguement just a little bit, though i do agree there are a lot of them out there.

Remakes are unfortunately the most relevant way to convey one generation's wondrous experiences to a future generation. For a long time I was waiting for a Remake of FFVII because I missed it the first time. This was in the time before it hit every online oldies/classics game store...

Remakes are just Square's way of butchering the old work though. Even when they bring back one of the original lead writers, it still happens because it gets praised & bought regardless. FF7 fans would buy the E.T. game for $75 if E.T. had a Cloud wig edited onto him.
