The thumbs up is such a common gesture in countries that use the internet often that we forget the culture clash incidents that it causes.

Many Middle Eastern and Eastern countries, it is a gesture more or less indicating that you want to stick your thumb up their butt.

In Japan, it is a sign language indication for gender of a person or possible object. I'm not sure.

Nintendo potentially disregards these clashes on account of 'merica being a greater source of its income than Japan.
