aww, the poor things string was broken...

for those of you that don't know, the japanese have a belief that every person is connected invisibly to another person through a red string connected to the pinkies, and that you are destined to be with the person on the other end. they say that this string can not break unless the other dies, and that you will have one encounter with this person in your lifetime, so you should make the best of it.

the ones in back seem like they can see their red string, while the little lady in front looks distraught about not having a destined person anymore. it's a sad picture if you're looking at the one in front only, but a happy one if you see how many have destined ones they are trying to find.

i don't know. i may just be over thinking the picture entirely. that's just my opinion on the matter

From that interpretation you can clearly see that somebody else don't have too much time on their hands, either. Their string is at the top.
