Anyways, came across one animator called Ronununu who makes almost dreamlike, schizo, animations with various game characters. One popular work is their Zelda series

This video doesn't quite fit with what you're going for, but it's worth watching with the subtitles on to see just how much YouTube's subtitle engine is capable of. It's the opening to Call of the Night. There's a few things in there I thought were part of the original video until I turned off the subs.

Seen Call of the Night in passing, really like the older sis character with the glasses. Also the “Last Day of War” was very paced, clearly a anti-war message and nature reclaiming the land. Reminded of one of the sub-stories in the Animatrix with a similar premise

Another animator I’m sharing is Xandrecos. This motherfucker animates using Cels and came outta nowhere. Some of my favorite works are this Mario 3, Mario Land and Pokemon Silver/Gold animations. He even uses the games OG color schemes
