Any character doesn't matter the gender

Well he said just characters, no specification so I assume both women and men count. I don't know if she's hated (more like her series in general is hated) but I like Lucy from Fairy Tail. Sure she's nowhere near as cool as Erza but she's not just eye candy. She's has a cute and funny personality, often the brains of the operation and can think outside the box to solve the problem. All that on top of her good looks? don't really have alot of issues with her

Another character I don't mind I guess is Yuri Briar from Spy x Family. It's probably due to me being a sis con but I get why he's so protective of Yor I mean just look at her. If she was my sister I wouldn't want any filth near her either. Again I'm being totally biased here but I don't hate him like alot of people do

Genki from Monster Rancher. I hated him at first too similarly to how I hated Ash from pokemon, but then I really watched the show properly from start to finish (and Japanese with subs also helped), and now I don't just tolerate him but actually like his character because I understand him better. A lot of people also seem to hate Yuu-chan in Boku to Misaki Sensei but I like him. Kouta from Kanokon too. Actually, most of the hated MCs a lot of anime fans complain about (usually in ecchi anime) usually at least don't bother me, lol. A similarly hated female character isn't coming to mind for me tho off the top of my head, not one I like at least.

People really prepared me to absolutely hate Marie in Persona 4 Golden, but I don't really see most of the issues.
Sure she was added onto a finished story in a rerelease, but Persona games are already written in such a way that they aren't exactly "tight" narratives, they last over 100 hours and a lot of that time is spent on fishing minigames and dating, so giving some of that time to a new character's arc isn't that egregious. I'd rather an addition like her's than what Royal added to 5.
I don't think I particularly love what her arc adds to the game but she's at least really cute, and I find her poetry schtick endearing.

I'm with you on this one. I agree with the haters on that it changes the underlying "magical" part of the story too much and she takes up too much spotlight on that regard. On the other hand, the "real world" part of the character and her scenes were fun, they made sure that she interacted with the entire cast enough, without being a core part of the investigation.

...and of course, Hanakana reading cringy teenage poem-spoofs was comedy gold. The energy, the words, it was perfect. :D
