why do people don't know shit about ww1?

the knowledge of my friends on ww1 is so bad like half of them think italy was on the central powers even though it was on the entente in our irl ww1, and i asked one of them how would ww2 be if the central powers won ww1 and he said hitler would still go to power IGNORING COMPLETELY THE FACT THAT THE REASON HITLER GOT TO POWER WAS THE DEFEAT OF THE GERMAN EMPIRE IN WW1 AND THE WEIMAR REPUBLIC AND IF THE CENTRAL POWERS WON THESE THINGS WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED AND FRANCE OR RUSSIA WOULD START WW2
and the worst thing they asked me is that if the USA was in ww1, but the person who asked it was a american and don't they teach american history in schools?
why do people know more about ww2 than ww1?

The obvious reason that people know more about WWII is because it was more recent, thus affects our lives more. Borders were much closer to what they are today, making it more easily understood, as well.

idk dude, in general I hate history because my classes made it boring and annoying, even today I find it hard to care despite knowing how important and interesting it can be, I dont remember specific shit about my own country's history besides a couple of mayor events that became memes

It's funny u say that cuz growing up I didn't care for history until my hs teacher made it really fun and engaging it honestly made me want to learn more so ig it just depends on who's teaching it

More movies about WW2 I guess, and it had an infamous "supervillain" that did crazy unforgettable shit like the holocaust. But yeah it's sad. Though I think a lot of people don't even know much about WW2 either aside from the basic stuff.

Yes it's totally overshadowed by its bigger and badder cousin, references to it in culture seem very rare in comparison but there have been things like Battlefield 1 from time to time. But it is quite interesting in its own way and was definitely a massive shock to so many people at that time, not only from the scale of violence but with all the then-new and terrifying shit being brought into conflict. Gas weapons, improved sniper tech, the first winged military aircraft AND tanks... [1910s Peter Griffin: "ah sweet, man-made horrors beyond my comprehension"]

Also, because the people who have actually seen it are all dead. You can see the same thing happening to WW2 now. In my youth, memory about it was alive, and you could hear stories from the mouth of the actual people who were there. Now, a very few of these people remain, if any. And I am not able to pass on my grandfather's stories as genuinely and effectively as he did.
