Good games these days are hard to come by. As gaming companies become larger, so do operational expenses. Konami and EA have been through this. They were once unfathomably based game makers until the dire need for them to pay the expenses and their investors kicked in, so there's that.
Also, operating servers on the side of gaming companies is expensive as heck. It should be not surprising that gaming companies do lots of paywalling.
In all seriousness, we are living in the era of enshittification.
Things have gotten worse with the gaming industry but good games are definitely not hard to come by. Just take your eyes off the AAA slop and start looking more at AA or indies.
Am I the only one not seeing the big issue between the new Assassin's Creed Game set in Japan featuring Yasuke, the black samurai?
I mean.... I think black samurais look pretty cool? When I saw Yasuke I said "well he looks pretty cool, not sure what the problem is here"
I guess the problem is that people are sick of what they believe is forced diversity being shoehorned into games, which I fully understand, but it's not like we didn't just have 3 huge blockbuster games this decade featuring ethnically Japanese samurai.
To me, this isn't like a Stellar Blade situation where we almost never get big budget games featuring super sexy women anymore. We still get consistent representations of Japanese characters and protagonists.
Funny thing is, they could have gone further down Southeast Asia with the protag, to both fill the "color" quota, while actually being semi more interesting.
