Nah, this is the 3rd one. Both this one and the 1st one were quite good. It was the 2nd one which sucked MAJOR balls and was a fucking torture to play...but you HAD yo play it since its a fucking trilogy and missing one kills the whole plot.

1 and 3 were definitely great, 2 had a good story but the battle system was meh and the UNCANNY VALLEY GRAPHICS ugh... definitely prefer the stylized look in 1&3

It was supposed to be a 7 part game I heard, but I guess thanks to the second one, they shortened it to 3

Yeah... what could have been... if only they'd actually stuck with 6/7 parts. Imagine a entire games dedicated to the T-elos and Ormus storylines instead of shoehorning them in Ep3.

Episode II killed Xenosaga for me. I fell in love with Episode I, but the radical shift in art style for Episode II (and the fact that the first few hours were as fun as watching paint dry) made me lose interest and I never bothered finishing it. Episode III looked promising, but without having finished II I wouldn't be able to follow the story so I just gave up on the series.

Whoever's idea it was to change to a more "realistic" art direction for Ep. II should've been (and hopefully was) fired. I was glad to see them revert to the stylized anime graphics for Ep. III but by then it was too little too late.

@anon9 You can enjoy ep3 without playing ep2, there's actually a good summary of the entire game in the ep3 encyclopedia.
