It happened in the novels as well. We just happened to get lucky with the anime and see at least a small preview.

Honestly, Shichika at the time was not nearly at his level of fighting, nor almost anyone else for that matter. So instead of a bs win, we got a sidestory. I dunno, my feelings are kinda mixed about it.
