Well, the modern trend in robotics is creating more soft robots (things that operate on such as suction or inflation instead of mechanical movements), and even traditional hard-frame robotics are increasingly being given more human-like skin for use in more service-sector applications (such as medical care or personal assistants for the disabled).
I mean, you can have your preferences all you want, but if I'm thinking about a tin can gynoid I'm thinking 1950s tech, not the future.
