@Leonheart: I'm not going to say that Vincent is a bad character, on the contrary, along with Tifa, he was usually in my Party after Aerith died. However, also remember that Vincent was a secret character in Final Fantasy VII and Dissidia is more based on the original and not the spin-offs or direct sequels, which is why Yuna is a Summoner instead of a Gunner or DressSphere character. In FFVII, Tifa was just under Cloud, Aerith, and Sephiroth in importance to the overall story.
Tifa also offered alot more then most main FF females, since she wasn't primarily a magic user, like every single other female in the original Dissidia, as well as a Monk-type character, and an important one, of which most other Monk-types aren't too important.
Also, I want to point out that the Director of Dissidia 012 stated that he 'wouldn't direct' unless Tifa was included, just as Nomura stated that FFIV's Kain needed to be included.
