On the flip side, without --no-preserve-root this won't do anything anyway, because rm -rf / is such a dangerous command that even a Linux baseutils command will be like "That doesn't look like a good idea, you really sure you want that?"

Also, don't be a wuss and compile sudo with offensive options enabled, so you get some more creative error messages when you get the password wrong.
