Minerva: Huh, isn't that!?
August 23rd, 2005
Oh, look.
Minerva: It can't be helped.
Isn't it a little awkward with only two?
Hmmm.
The new attitude control program is starting.
O- okay.
Soon, you'll be able to capture the distance to target with your camera.
So continue your measurements of Itokawa.
We thought this might happen, and have prepared a software patch!
There's still 2 reaction wheels!
Are you alright?
What timing!
Eh!
The reaction wheel suddenly stopped.
*whiiiine*
Huh...
Within Range of Expectations
Hayabusa captured her destination, Itokawa, with her camera.
* Reaction wheel (RW)
A machine used for attitude control, such as a flywheel.

Hayabusa-san's RWs are installed to cover the three dimensional directions of x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis. However, the RW for x-axis suddenly stopped functioning.

* "In preparation for the situation like this"
The failure rate of an operating machine is higher than that of a non-operating machine. Since there is no repair shop in Space, we can do nothing to fix it once the machine breaks down.

Thus, JAXA/ISAS considered that the RW, which would constantly keep rotating, needed further attention to care.

The failure of one axis was actually the circumstance within range of expectations.

The immediate measure was taken, and there was no significant effect on the mission.

However, the decreased accuracy in attitude control more or less affected the fine observation.

This line is a parody of "Uchuu Senkan Yamato." A science officer, , is capable and his ideas frequently save the ship from destruction. "Konna koto mo arou kato!" ("In preparation for the situation like this!") is his catch line. Although we have not confirmed the scene where Sanada Shirou actually said this line, he surely said the line similar to this.
Later, Sanada appeared to a video of Hayabusa in Youtube.
