Now Viewing: gakuen_utopia_manabi_straight!Tag type: Copyright High school moe slice of life comedy series created by ufotable. The original manga ran from December 1, 2005 to December 21, 2007. It was adapted in to an TV series that ran from January 8, 2007 to March 26, 2007. The series notably does not credit a single person as the director of the series, and is the first anime TV series to do so. Instead, the director position is credited to Team Manabibeya, which consists of Kingetsu Ryunosuke (writer and story director), Ogasawara_Atsushi (animation and character design), Takahashi Takurowo (layout director), and Hirao Takayuki (technical director). This was a decision made by the creators of the series as they wanted to show that they had shared the burden together. A new Manabi Straight manga is currently being planned. It is set in the all girls high school Seioh Private High school, which is plagued with low morale. Inamori Mika is the only member of the student council, but she's too shy to be an effective leader and is unable to get more students to join the council. Things change when the extremely energetic Amamiya Manami, also known as Manabi, transfers into the school. Despite being a newcomer, she has a lot of school spirit and her infectious enthusiasm quickly propels her into the position of student council president. Manami wishes to create a spectacular school festival and reinvigorate Seioh's school spirit. Manabi teams up with Mika to recruit members into the council and make her dream into reality. The series is notable for its distinct art style; characters have gradient hair and are drawn with roundish faces making them look youthful. All of the main girls have names that start with the letter M. The previews of the series for some reason make the show seem darker than it actually is, which has caught some viewers off guard. The series itself is a lighthearted and laid-back slice of life tale. It also features an OP sung by Hayashibara_Megumi though she does not voice act a character in the show.
