Usually anime fandoms are in favor of yuri because hot or cute, but today I just learned that the BA fandom is against yuri shipping not because of homophobia or because "Nooo, [girl]-chan should only be with me! She can't be gay!" But because they fucking hate how yuri fans ruin every fandom they touch, mainly the gacha fandoms, it makes me want to give BA a 2nd chance cuz based fandom.
In any fandom involving a cast heavily loaded with female characters (<50% female) yuri ships are kind've... Natural? Ya know.~
So I don't think yuri shippers are in anyway more toxic than any other kind of shipper, just happens that in gacha, yuri ships are very prevalent, and with a high enough control group, there's bound to be more noticeable toxicity.

2hu also had this shit, or maybe it still does. Artists just run off by yuri shitlords for daring to make, gasp, something straight.

Again, yuri being seen as toxic is news to me. The NIKKE fandom, which I'm slightly more familiar with, doesn't have much yuri talk seeing as it's all sex jokes with the male commander. But shipping between the female characters doesn't really seem to cause any friction between fans.
You should visit the Hoyoverse subreddits; houkai3rd, Genshin Impact and Star Rail. The Yuri-shippers here are completely rabid and insane, constantly yapping about how "all females are queercoded", "all straight ships are homophobic", etc and sending hate and death threats to everyone who supports straight ships. Just ask the artist Tian Kazuki about how much of this shit he gets on a daily basis.
One example was the drama on the Arlecchino_Mains sub, a single post about a straight ship and all the Yuri-shippers went ballistic.
Text explanation of that drama:
www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_.../1bbbesg/comment/kua320c/Video covering this:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=n98F2cdGnmkHeck, the Genshin Impact community is known for constantly sending death threats and the Yuri-shippers are one of the main source of them.
I wouldn't be surprised if the BA community also caught wind of this all and don't want the same shit happening in their subs.
This sounds more like a twatter/dumblr lefty thing not a yuri thing, these series have unfortunately grown large enough to "touch the mainstream"
tl;dr NORMIES GET OUT, REEEEEEEEEE
When I hear toxic yuri fan I think more like..... Stalking VAs irl locations to send them personal gifts or something.
OR finding out the VA is married and trying to chase hubby off. Basically these -ist/-isms heterophobes sound like tourists to me
