Captive-Piston Silencer (or suppressor if you don't wanna scare lawmakers) ammunition/cartridges are such a crazy and clever concept. Basically there's a plunger or piston behind the bullet, when the gunpowder behind the piston is ignited, the plunger pushes the bullet out of the cartridge and seals up the hole, trapping the gases inside the cartridge.
Pretty ingenious and it works. Though the ATF considers each individual round a silencer/suppressor. So on top of being expensive you'd have to register each individual bullet as a silencer.
