Originally,Kishimoto didnt plan to put a Deidara(wayyyy back at the start). Deidara was originally going to be a Sexy Jutsu created by Ino.

due to the recent deaths among their members, Akatsuki had a membership drive. They told the girls that they were going after Naruto so Hinata joined up, they then added that they also were planning to abduct a black man, and then the rest joined.
