"1 in 9"... "god help us if"... what? Has no one here ever actually played Minesweeper (and #201066 clearly just can't count)? getting an 8 on the first click is the 2nd best type of square you can click after empty (unless you clicked a side or corner first, but who does that?), because there are EXACTLY 8 adjacent squares to the 8, so you know without a doubt ALL of them are mines. Literally any other number on the first click tells you absolutely nothing, leaving you right back at square one (keep in mind humans pretty much instinctively have zero understanding of how probabilities actually work), and a mine is a loss in one move.
P.S. They're playing on Beginner, which means there are 10 mines on the whole 8x8 board. That means there are only 2 mines that are NOT adjacent to that 8. That means she basically has a 53 in 55 chance of winning on the SECOND move if she clicks anywhere that is not adjacent to the 8! In other words, the whole strategy-related part of that explanation I just gave (about the ranking of first clicks) is actually flipped around on Beginner. On Beginner, 8 is the best first click you could ever hope to get in your lifetime!

Gah, 9x9! They're playing a nonstandard version of Minesweeper (probably artistic license just so the artist could make that first click be perfectly in the center, which is impossible with 8x8)!
Yeah, that throws off my math in the P.S. a tiny bit, but really that should make the likelihood of an instant win INCREASE.
