Now Viewing: dino_crisisTag type: Copyright Covers the entire franchise. Survival horror series created by Capcom. It is often considered to be a spiritual successor to Resident Evil. The original game has a similar gameplay style and was also directed by Mikami Shinji, the creator of Resident Evil. The original game was released on July 1, 1999 for the PS1. The artwork was handled by Tazaki_Kazunori, Kondo_Yasuyo, and Akimoto_Yuichi. Music was composed by Tomozawa Makoto, Fujita Sayaka, Kaida Akari, and Nishigaki Shun. The first two games star Regina, who is part of a raid team known as SORT, as she battles dinosaurs. In the original game, she, along with her teammates take on dinosaurs who have been brought into the present day by a rift in time. While battling the displaced dinosaurs in a research facility, she and her team must also capture the scientist responsible for bringing the dinosaurs into the present day, Dr. Kirk. As the game has dinosaurs as the main enemy, gameplay is slightly faster paced than the early Resident Evil games and Capcom promoted the game as a survival panic game as opposed to Resident Evil's survival horror. The game also has 'danger events' which can be seen as a precursor to the quick time events featured in Resident Evil 4. These events involve Regina being put into immediate danger and the player must rapidly press the button on the screen in order to escape. Nevertheless, the game has many puzzles and the enemies appear more sporadically in comparison to the second game. The first game has multiple endings; which ending the player gets is dependent on Regina's decision at a pivotal plot event. The second game is faster-paced and is more of a third person shooting action game that uses the Resident Evil style fixed camera. It was released on September 13, 2000 for the PS1 and was directed by Takumi Shu, who would go on to create the Gyakuten Saiban series. The story was written by Sugimura Noboru, who also wrote the stories for the early Resident Evil games, and Hirano Yosuke and Miyagi Kishiko. The game gives the player more ammunition than the previous game and gives combo points based on how many dinosaurs the player kills in a row and there are also fewer puzzles. Regina shares main character status with Dylan Morton and the two of them are sent on a search and rescue mission after Edward City, a city which was developed to continue the research Dr. Kirk did, suddenly vanishes. There is a rail shooter spinoff called Dino Survivor that features Paula from Dino Crisis 2. Dino Crisis 3 does not have Regina and is mostly unconnected to the previous games except for the presence of dinosaurs, and even then, they are actually mutations formed by dinosaur DNA. It is also set in space station. Like Resident Evil, all dialogue is in English and there is no Japanese dub even though the game is developed by a largely Japanese staff. The first two games are available on the Playstation Network. While the games were popular enough to spawn sequels, the series never enjoyed the widespread popularity of its spiritual ancestor Resident Evil and the series has yet to receive another game since Dino Crisis 3.
