Given that they become feasible on the battlefield LivingCorpse. From my viewpoint, the mechas we will see first would be the power armors for frontline combat arm soldiers (think Iron Man, but without the ability to fly or shoot proton beams from their hands or chest).

I think some early energy weapon will be on them. We've made some serious strides with energy, laser and railgun tech in the recent decade.

Though the more conventional armaments will never go away, energy weapons are meant to supplement cannons, missiles, rockets and guns, not replace them.

Maybe in later generations, when all the teething problems with energy, and railgun weapons are addressed. For the first few generations, conventional weapons with most likely be the arsenal of the mecha.

Yeah. I know they want 6th generation fighter jets to have lasers. Even then they're still gonna have normal weapons cause lasers lose some of their power in poor weather conditions or in clouds.
