I will always wonder if Hansel and Gretel were two girls, two boys, a boy dressed as a girl and a girl dressed as a boy, or simply a boy and a girl. The fact that they were always switching roles only makes it more confusing, too.
But hey, I guess that's what made them so cool.

I always understood them to be a boy & a girl. What I wonder about is the source of inspiration, besides the evident Jakob & Wilhelm Grimm: it seems to me the story arc was heavily informed by twins Anna & Johann Liebert from Monster, another manga that borrowed on the famous tale. That and their Eastern European origin, even though I must grant Bohemia is quite far removed from the Carpathians Mountains.

That and their Eastern European origin, even though I must grant Bohemia is quite far removed from the Carpathians Mountains.
