Geez, Annie never looks happy. I recall her only genuinely smiling about her time training with Eren or relief over not having to maintain her charade. I mean she’s in kind of a crappy world and is not crazy about her lot in life or role to play but she could at least pretend not to be miserable.

Misery is misery. Smiling alone wont change that.

Now if Armin/Annie would happen... well, maybe Annie would still feel like ”I’m too cool for smiling”, but deep down, we’d all know she’s happy with Armin. I know I’d be happy. (:
